The landmark station in Gilmour Street is on track for a new look as bosses at Network Rail carry out a radical overhaul.

An estimated £9million will be spent on improvements to the B-listed building, which is to be given a new roof.

Planning chiefs at Renfrewshire Council have given the proposals the green light and Network Rail is now tendering for contractors to carry out the work.

The Paisley Gilmour Street station revamp is set to get under way in February next year and work is expected to last for several months.]]>

Supermarket giant Tesco has been given approval to exhume 19th Century human remains found in Linwood — leaving the site ready for development.

A judge granted Tesco an order allowing the firm to open a burial vault at the former parish church and remove the corpses, which would then be cremated and reintered.

The bodies — believed to be from a family called Speir — were found in lead-lined coffins.

Now a local councillor is calling on Tesco’s bosses to act quickly and demolish the derelict church.

The State Emergency Service (SES) says a tornado or water spout has damaged 11 homes in the city's eastern suburbs after it came ashore just before midday AEST.

Sergeant Guy Irvine from Sunshine police said that when the woman complained of stomach cramps, a custody nurse at the station believed she was going into labour.

An ambulance was called and while the paramedics where wheeling her out of the station she gave birth in the corridor.

The woman and the new arrival were taken to Sunshine Hospital, where they remain under police guard.
